I've been weaving on my small Japanese loom for almost 20 years, integrating diverse plant and animal fibres to evoke the beauty of nature. A trained ethnobotanist, I also weave baskets with wild and cultivated willow and other native or introduced plants. Each creation is a collaboration with the life of this place, an embodiment of the ancient relationship between ecology and the arts.

Creativity is essential to belonging because it serves as a way for us to recognize each other. We listen for that pulse of originality coming through us, giving it the unique form that comes from our particular encounter with it. And as we make beauty from our origins, we find networks of people just like us, adding their voice to a thing we're all trying to make real.
